About Jack Myers
Growing up I was always very close to my grandparents. They lived together in the same small ranch house for over 60 years. In fact, I lived in that very house with them while attending college. That is just one example of all the support they provided me over the years.
Years ago, my grandfather experienced a major health event which required major surgery. The surgery was successful in that it saved his life but came with major complications. He went from complete independence, to suddenly needing around the clock assistance and care.
At this point in my life, I knew nothing about senior living communities, rehab facilities, home health services, or home care. I didn’t even know the difference between Medicare and Medicaid!
Eventually, I would be in and out of hospitals, rehab, assisted living and skilled nursing facilities for both my grandparents. My family utilized home health care, hired a couple different home care companies, and eventually needed hospice services.
My grandfather passed away a year after his surgery. Luckily, he ended up in a community that provided excellent care. My grandmother insisted on aging in place and stayed in the same home she had lived in since 1952. She died after a brief illness 4 years ago.
Not long after he passed, I decided I needed a change of scenery. I had lived in my hometown my whole life, was burned out career wise (small business owner of 10 years) and needed a new challenge. While financially I was doing well, I didn’t feel I had a purpose and began to dread going to work every day.
I decided to quit my business and set my sights on Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina- a Charleston suburb and place I had always wanted to live.
It just so happened that my new home was across the street from a brand-new senior living community. Remembering how rewarding it felt to help my grandfather, and believing I had the right temperament, if not the experience, I dropped an application off and was lucky enough to get my foot in the door soon after.
From the moment I took the job I knew I had found my calling. Since that time and many promotions later, I still feel that way. My time in senior living includes service at four, large, upscale, senior living properties, including two continuing care retirement communities.
I’ve held various roles over the years including: Sales and Marketing Director, Lifestyle Advisor, Resident Services Director, Sales Counselor, Outreach Coordinator, and Admissions Director. I have experience in “every level of care”, including independent living, assisted living, memory care, short-term rehab, and long-term care.
I have worked at communities in all stages of development, including the opening of a new luxury property, capable of housing over 200 residents. I have spent time at a publicly traded company with responsibility for 250 properties, and a small privately-owned operation overseeing 4 communities.
No matter the property or position, I've found helping seniors and their families, often in very stressful and difficult situations, to be rewarding and purposeful.
Today, I assist investors, management companies, and communities in promoting their values and services to the people they wish to serve.
